Ticket to Ride Nordic Countries – Worldwide release this fall!

World-wide fan demand prompts release of English, French and German language editions.

This 2-3 player version in the award winning Ticket to Ride board game series was previously available only in Swedish, Norwegian, Danish and Finnish languages and features routes across Scandinavia in a vertically-formatted board map.

You can learn more about this upcoming game on the dedicated page on Ticket to Ride website or read the post we published when the game was first released.

This special edition version of Nordic Countries is expected to be available for only a limited time and should hit the shelves in September.

This post is also available in: French, German

Very happy to see this! Already pre-ordered, can’t wait!

I’m surprised you didn’t post pictures of the train cards too — that’s where the gorgeous art really shines. Beautiful snow-covered winter trains! I own this game (import, non-English version) and I love the art and I love how it plays too.

That is great news. I already have one of the previous editions, so would there be a way to order just the english rules (I know they are available elsewhere, I just like it when things match)

Not that I care one way or the other, but didn’t DOW assure everyone they would never print this in English or make it available outside the regions represented on the board?

It seems to me that a lot of people that thought they were getting an exclusive copy of their home nation, and those who paid a lot of money to get this imported, might be upset.

I am just curious to know why DOW changed their mind on this one. (Besides the obvious answer of they have a game and can make money on it).

  5. Ogma says:

Yes, they did say that the game would not ever be made available in the US and so loads of people spent huge gobs of cash buying imported copies via ebay.

  6. Heavy Things says:

extremely dissapointed in this decision, as one of the few how paid more for this upon their statement never to be released. They should at least retheme, remake not just a language difference, extremely dissapointed and an absoultely boneheaded decision sure to alienate more than please.

In a DOW blog, they left open the possibility of a worldwide release. See this link…

In this same link, DOW also explained that one reason for limiting the release of Nordic involved the fact that Nordic’s gameplay was too close to the Swiss expansion (which was about to be released at the time), and they feared that having both maps at the same time would saturate the market.

I don’t think there was ill intent here by DOW. I am just glad they are providing the english version.

Funny how the comments at the time made it sound like this was an exclusive and would remain so. But seeing the old blog post proves otherwise.

I wish that DOW would release these as expansion packs as well similar to the Switzerland map. I have no need for a complete game that is fairly similar to the ones I have. But if it was a reduced price for just the board, the destination tickets, and any additional pieces (for Europe and Maklin), I would buy the rest of them. I don’t need the revised art on the train cards or the new train colors; I’d rather just reuse what I can of the base game and have the new boards for variety.
