As mentioned on our forums, our contributions to this blog will continue to vary based upon:
- having newsworthy items worth sharing;
- and finding the bandwidth required to post new entries.
When forced to choose between finishing up products or making new entries, polishing up the products for release will usually win. This being said, we’ve now made sufficient progress on a number of fronts to provide everyone with a long overdue update.
Call to Arms
The Call to Arms expansion is now inside containers on their way to our respective US and European warehouses. We expect it to reach our shores by month’s end, and to be available in stores in early May, a couple of weeks later than we had originally hoped. The game will be available for pre-orders on our web store next week. MSRP will be $20 in the US, €15 in Europe.
Call to Arms rulebook – now available for download!
We think you will find it worth the wait. A few lucky souls got a preview of it at Alan Moon’s Gathering of Friends last week, courtesy of a few airshipped copies now in our possession. To help you remain patient for its arrival, we have posted the rules online. Click here to download them.
Epic BattleLore
The next expansion in line for release is the expanded deluxe, printed-version of Epic BattleLore. This expansion should reach stores around the end of May, and will retail for $15 in the US, and €15 in Europe. It will be available for pre-order on our web store at the same time as Call to Arms, sometime next week.
Epic BattleLore – Deluxe printed version coming soon!
Specialist Packs
Next in line, just in time for an Origins release (late June/early July), will be our first two Specialist packs: a Dwarven Battalion and a Goblin Skirmishers set. These packs introduce new units to the game, along with the Specialist and Weapon summary cards necessary to field them. For now, let’s just say that they will significantly alter your game. Here’s a sneak peek at one of the pack’s cover. Each of these packs will retail for $24 in the US and €20 in Europe.
1st Dwarven Battalion
Dwarfs…. Gimme Gimme Gimme Gimme
And save one for OldDwarf
The Call to Arms rules look good, but there is no mention in them of how they work with Epic BattleLore. Will that be covered in the deluxe, printed version of the Epic rules?
Thank you for the update! I look forward to them, and now can stop pestering my FLGS for dates.
Than you, Eric (it is still Eric making these blog entires, right?).
Some questions have cropped up from boardgamegeek. The most interesting one is “Who DEPLOYS first?”. We know that the selection of Deployment cards is simultaneous and most of the time the order won’t matter. But if, for instance, in an organized game, during one phase of deployment, each side tries to get a unit of a type for which only one unit remains… which side gets the unit and which side gets the Levy Token? Clearly, deployment can’t be ‘simultaneous’ – one side has to deploy first. And it doesn’t seem to be defined which side does.
Also, some questions have arisen regarding creatures.
1. How does Call to Arms resolve if more than one player tries to deploy the same creature? It only describes the use of Levy tokens for troops, not creatures.
2. Do the cards in this release only support a green creature (IE, the giant spider?) or can the deployment cards with the creature logo on it be used to deploy a blue creature (Hill Giant or Earth Elemental?) If so, how do the lairs work with CtA?
3. Can creatures still be selected/deployed at War Council stage even if you didn’t deploy a creature in the Deployment phase? Or is the only way to get a creature into play in CtA, by drawing a creature deployment card?
Looks great guys…I can’t wait!
So when do we get to see Heroes?
Call to Arms sounds great! When are we going to see the new terrain types available on the adventures editor? I am really looking forward to making some new scenarios!
We will release the new terrain types as soon as Call to Arms ships.
The Call to Arms rules look good, but there is no mention in them of how they work with Epic BattleLore. Will that be covered in the deluxe, printed version of the Epic rules?
Yes, the rules for this will be in the deluxe, printed version of Epic, since it will come out after Call to Arms.
How many minis in a specialist pack?
Have I missed out on something in the Epic pack by having bought 2 copies of BattleLore ?
No, because we will handle folks who own 2 copies right. 😉
An announcement will be forthcoming shortly.
I was wondering how and indeed if I can order these expansions over the battlelore website?
Also, will the new terrain types be a release in their own right?
The new troop packs/battalion packs lookgood, but are they going to be compatible with call to arms?
Are heroes going to be added tpo the game anytime soon, and will they act like warhammer unit champions,or legends/generals with retinues in their own right?
Oh yes,a message to whoeveritwas, the monster you see on the cover of battlelore is a hill giant available in a booster pack, not a giant.

When will it hit the store? Not in the promised next week.
I just hope there is not another delay…
No there’s no delay, it’s just that we’ve been busy and haven’t found the time to update the web store. it;s coming soon though.
and yes Specialist packs will be compatible with Call to Arms.
