New Expansion for Five Tribes: Pre-order Now!

Five TribesThey say that in the very heart of the mountains of the Sultanate of Naqala, there lives a Tribe that rarely appears in the bazaars and markets in town.

They call themselves the Artisans, and work day and night crafting precious items, inlaid with rare gems.

Some travellers claim that the Artisans are able to craft unique artifacts, filled with magic and mystery…

With “The Artisans of Naqala”, a new Tribe appears in the game! Use Artisans and their Items to achieve victory over your opponents and take control of the Sultanate!

Represented by purple Meeples, the Artisans add a new layer of strategy in Five Tribes. With their help, players will be able to have precious or magic items crafted. Some of these items are worth Victory Points, while others, such as the Rebirth Ring or the Horn of Plenty, unlock special powers. Also, like Viziers and Elders, Artisans are worth additional Victory Points at the end of the game – so make sure to recover more Artisans than your opponents!

To accommodate these new Meeples, the expansion also features new Tiles that will increase the size of the game board: you will now play on a 6×6 square featuring Workshops (where the Artisans craft their Items) and Specialized Markets (where players can buy specific Merchandise when needed). An impassable Chasm Tile, as well as Mountain markers, will also force the players to adapt their strategy when moving Meeples.

Two new Djinns are also provided in the expansion: Ptah that gives you extra VPs for each of your Artisans, and Geb that gives extra value to your precious items. Will you gain their favor to reign over the Sultanate? The expansion also includes an updated version of Kandicha and Boaz, to ensure their compatibility with Artisans.

Five Tribes is for 2 to 4 players, ages 13 and older and takes approximately 40-80 minutes to play. Its expansion “The Artisans of Naqala” is expected to be available from game retailers in June in Europe and early August in North America (GenCon). Pre-order your copy of “The Artisans of Naqala” today!

“If you’re one of our early birds, your copy of Five Tribes came with Slave cards. These were replaced with Fakir cards in the latest version of the
game. If you do not own Fakir cards, each time you encounter a Fakir symbol, use your Slave cards instead.”
Really? That’s it? :((( So I can’t have compatible expansions to my game? :(((

The expansion is compatible with both versions of the base games as Fakirs and Slaves have the same effect. The Fakir card has been designed in a way that when used at the icon size (on a tile for instance), it’s close enough to the Slave one not to be an issue…
That’s even more true as there is no other beige card in the game…

I still think it’s a poor solution from Days of Wonder. I’ve come to expect (and get!) a lot more from the company. DoW produces great games, Five Tribes is an exceptional game but this inconsistency is below the admittedly high quality level Days of Wonder is famous for.

So this is going to look stupid and not match the first version of five tribes with the slaves?

  3. john says:

Can we have an expansion that has slaves instead of fakirs for those of us who like slaves??

You want to know what upsets me most about this expansion?? Its not out yet! Please hurry!!! Out of my collection of nearly 200 games five tribes is my second most played!
